NHS Events and Activities:

The Lock-In - All night event- 7pm to 7am the next day - and has been our opening NHS activity. The annual Lock-In includes movies, team competitions, food, and lots of fun.

Roadside Cleanup - We clean up the trash from Greenhouse Road (the road in front of RCHS) and the school  campus 2-3 times per year.

Campus Improvement - We are currently researching a project to improve the outside eating areas;  this will include  new mulch, possibly new trash cans and recycling bins, and some landscaping/replanting projects in the spring.

Halloween Fair -  Last Saturday before Halloween: NHS members dress up and provide trick-or-treating, a haunted hall, a photo booth, and carnival activities.  Sponsored by the NHS, participation in this school-wide event is open to all RCHS students.

Food of the Month - We collect food for the local food pantry during September, November, January, March, and May.

Adopt A Soldier - We alternate collections for our soldiers with our Food of the month program, also meeting to make holiday cards, letters, ornaments, etc., to send to soldiers.  We will collect this year during October, December, February, and April.

NHS Elf Shelf - Through November & early December NHS collects gifts for local elementary school students.  We take donations of gifts and money, complete several fundraisers to support this project, and then deliver 200+ gifts to our local elementary school.

Relay for Life - The NHS has an overnight team;  we raise funds for the American Cancer Society during the spring;  in 2011 we won top fundraising team for the third year running, raising over $14,000.  We are also working on a school-wide fundraising project that we hope will involve full RCHS student participation in a fundraising video for the American Cancer Society/Relay for Life.

Make-a-Wish Program - Another project we hope to add this year is a school-wide effort to raise money for the Make-a-Wish program, which grants wishes to very ill children.  We hope to join forces with the MRMS & RMS NJHS chapters for this project and perhaps fully sponsor one child

Other School and Community Service Activities - NHS also provides workers/helpers for many school & community events & develops new projects each year.  Some activities for which we have provided volunteers include:  Academic Team meets, Forensics Team Meets, Berry Picking, the MORP dance, Santa’s Secret Shoppe, the Horse Trials, the Dance-a-Thon, & Christmas Baskets.  We are also considering some other projects, such as a school-wide clothing drive, a gloves, hats, & scarves Christmas tree, and supporting other school and global service and fundraising efforts.
